Dowd's here but four days late

Last updated : 23 August 2009 By Tony Scholes
Alan Wiley took charge of the game on Wednesday, but even the match day programme showed Dowd. Why the change I don't know but the Stoke official was instead refereering the Championship game between Newcastle and Sheffield Wednesday.

Even the less informed newspapers on the day after the game, with reporters supposedly at the game, printed that Dowd had refereed the game. There's hardly a likeness between him and Wiley, not even from the press box at Turf Moor.

On Wednesday we said that Dowd had started the season with the Spurs v Liverpool game and had handed out six yellow cards. You can now take his total to eleven in two games after he gave out another five on Wednesday. Given his record we can expect cards today.

His assistants for the Everton game are Mo Matadar (Lancashire) and John Flynn (Wiltshire) whilst the fourth official is Premier League referee Peter Walton (Northampton) who got his season underway with the game between Liverpool and Stoke in midweek.
