Dowd returns for cup tie

Last updated : 28 January 2005 By Tony Scholes

It won’t be his first FA Cup tie at the Turf either, just under two years ago he stepped in for the replay against Fulham and had a good game as we stormed through to a 3-0 win.

Earlier this season he was in charge on that fantastic night at Elland Road when we beat Leeds 2-1 and although he handed out four yellow cards, two each, he had another good game.

This season he has refereed a total of 22 games, most of which have been in the Premiership and in those games he has given out 57 yellow and 3 red cards.

The red cards have all gone to Premiership players, to Middlesbrough’s Franck Queudrue in a 2-0 defeat at Tottenham, Christian Negouai of Manchester City who was sent off within three minutes of coming on as a substitute as they went down 2-1 at Everton and finally Norwich City’s Marc Edworthy who was sent of after just five minutes of their 1-1 draw at Portsmouth.

Of those yellow cards 25 have gone to home team players and the other 32 to away team players. In recent weeks though it has been more home players receiving cards.

On Saturday his assistant referees will be P Canadine and A Halliday whilst the fourth official will be Football League referee Andre Marriner who took charge of our 1-0 home win against Nottingham Forest in November.
