Do you want to play on the Turf?

Last updated : 28 February 2002 By Tony Scholes

Now you have your chance to play on the Turf and at the same time help to raise money for charities through Football Aid. This is a charity event being held in April and May of this year at a number of football stadia and is supported by the FA Premier League, the Football League and the Scottish Premier League.

To take part all you need to do is bid for a place in one of the teams in the match taking place at your ground. For Burnley and Turf Moor that means 29th April with a 6:00 p.m. kick off although this is still subject to change should we be in the play offs.

The teams will be managed by Willie Irvine and Andy Lochhead so that should guarantee goals and their right hand men, the team captains, are Vince Overson and Gerry Harrison. Can I suggest that if you do wish to take part then try and get on Vince's team. No disrespect to Gerry Harrison but Big Vince is hard.

To bid you need to visit the Football Aid web site which you can do by clicking on the links on this page, registering and then following the simple instructions. Bidding does end on 6th March so you have a week left to make your bid and have your dream come true by playing on the Turf.

There are a number of Clarets supporters who have already got their places and one of them, Neil Starkie, is travelling from Coventry to take his place. Last season there was sadly a lack of interest but this time round it looks as though it is going to be a great success.

Due to injury, and a surplus of around four stones in weight, the Clarets Mad editor is unable to take part but rest assured Clarets Mad will be there so get in there, enjoy playing on the Turf and you will also feature in one of our match reports.
