Diallo stays in the Championship

It looked as though he wouldn’t be returning when Ipswich released him at the end of the season with suggestions that he would probably leave England with France thought to be where he was heading.

That’s not the case and he will still be playing Championship football after he signed a one year deal with newly promoted Sheffield Wednesday.

Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock was delighted to get him and said, “He’s an honest defender, quick, hard working and he attacks the ball really well. I’m pleased we’ve got that type of player.

“He player 30 games for Ipswich last season and out of position at right back dare I say it. They lost only three of them.”

Diallo, who was a crowd favourite whilst at Burnley, said he agreed to the deal after talking to former Wednesday players Jim Magilton and Shefki Kuqi and coach Willie Donachie. “I spoke to Jim last week,” he said. “And he said it is a big club with fantastic supporters and friendly people.”

His next chance to play at Burnley comes on the last day of the year and I’m sure he’ll get another Turf Moor welcome.
