Derby's Murray linked

Murray has himself said that he has a number of options from clubs in both Division One and Division Two and is hopeful of sorting out a deal sometime this week.

The 21 year-old midfielder made his debut for the Rams at the end of the 1998/99 season, featuring in each of the last four games although all of them were as a sub. His first start came just a year later in a 0-0 home draw against Newcastle right at the end of the 1999/2000 season.

He has made a total of 54 league appearances for Derby although 30 of them are as a substitute and he can add a further 13 league appearances to that with a loan spell at Mansfield during the 2001/02 season.

Goals have been difficult to come by and he is still to score his first goal for Derby but incredibly netted seven times during his short spell at Mansfield as they won promotion from the 3rd Division.

He recently signed a new contract at Derby but then last week was made available when the club issued the following short statement via manager George Burley,

"Adam Murray has been placed on the transfer list and we have circulated his name to other clubs. He needs to be playing first team football at this point in his career and I cannot offer him that at this time."

Murray himself was shocked with the news and added, "If I'm honest, I still don't know why I'm not wanted because it just came out of the blue one day after training when the secretary phoned my agent.

"I've been at this club since I was 16 and it's all a bit confusing, but now I have to do what's best for Adam Murray.

"There are a few things in the pipeline with Division One clubs and others so hopefully something can be finalised this week."
