De Canio goes

De Canio was the replacement for John Gregory in October but caretaker boss Ray Harford had already started to turn things round for the bottom of the league side before his arrival.

They'd slumped back to the bottom by December when they came to the Turf and beat us 2-0 and the non-English speaking Italian coach benefited significantly from the new found wealth at Loftus Road and was able to bring in no fewer than ten new players.

They spent a staggering amount of money and when Preston's Patrick Agyemang moved their our local rivals said they'd made him an offer that Preston just couldn't come close to matching.

Even so, De Canio's position never looked particularly secure. With Gianluca Vialli sometimes watching from the stands he was often tipped to be set to replace him. Only last weekend news broke that there was going to be big news ahead of their last game of the season against West Brom.

One Sunday paper revealed that it was the appointment of Zinadine Zidane as manager, when the announcement came it was nothing more than a new club badge. But four days later De Canio has gone, and now we await news as to whether Zidane or Vialli will be the new boss.
