De Canio gets QPR job

De Canio has signed a deal that will see him in charge of the West London club until the end of the 2009/10 season. Now 50, he has had previous experience in his homeland with Udinese, Napoli, Reggina, Genoa and at Siena where he was until the end of last season.

The new manager said of his appointment: "I am very excited at this fantastic opportunity to join Queens Park Ranger as their First Team Coach. For me it will be an honour to work for Queens Park Rangers, a club which is backed by Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore, two businessmen with an incredible track record of success in sport and other fields.

"I would like to thank them and tell them I will not disappoint their expectations. I am fully committed to the project and I am looking forward to getting to work with the players in preparation for our forthcoming home fixture against Hull City on Saturday."

Harford was offered a different role but the former striker, who only arrived at Loftus Road in the summer, has turned it down and left he club.
