Davis moves into the Conference

He’s on his way to join another former Burnley player Chris Brass at York City and becomes Brassy’s first summer signing following their relegation from the Football League.

Steve signed a two year contract with Blackpool a year ago but they graciously allowed him to move on last week when he was offered a player/coach role elsewhere although there is no clear reference to him joining the coaching staff at Bootham Crescent.

Brassy tried to sign him last summer and then again just before the transfer deadline as his side were dropping towards relegation but he missed out on both occasions.

He said today, “There were three players who I had as my main priorities to sign. Steve was top of that list.

“Steve is one of the best professionals I have worked with and he has the same hunger and desire still. I feel he will also help Lee Nogan and myself in the dressing room which was something that was missing last season.

“He will come in and have a great impetus. He has turned down a number of offers to stay in the league and play at a higher level but he wants to be part of taking this club forward. His experience will certainly help the youngsters at the club.

Blackpool have been helpful and not stood in his way.”

I think Burnley fans would have had more than a passing interest in the fortunes of York City next season with Brassy there as manager. Now that is a certainty with Steve Davis also part of the set up.
