Davis goes out on loan

Only recently Stan admitted that this was an area where we have no cover and with both Ian Cox and Steve Davis currently injured we are down to the bare bones. Despite Stan’s early season threat to throw the kids in it does look as though reserve team centre-half Earl Davis is not under consideration.

That was confirmed today when he signed a one month loan deal with Stalybridge Celtic who play their football in the Unibond League Premier Division.

Earl hasn’t come close to a first team game at Burnley and has had to be content with reserve team football and has now become the second Claret to sign for the Bower Fold club since ex-Claret David Miller took over as manager last March.

One of Miller’s first moves as boss was to take Anthony Shandran on loan although at the time they were playing their football in the Nationwide Conference. Shandy scored on his debut in a 2-0 win at Yeovil, coming on as a sub, but failed to add to his goal tally in six starts after that.

Shandy couldn’t help rescue their season and they were relegated to the Unibond. They have had a reasonable first half to the season but already find themselves trailing runaway leaders Accrington Stanley by 13 points – click HERE for league table.

Tomorrow they travel to Croft Park to take on Blyth Spartans, a club who find themselves fifth from bottom, and Earl is expected to go straight into the team alongside former Claret Phil Eastwood.
