Davis completes the defence

There has been a heated debate on this one, with Davis up against John McGreal but Davis was always in front and having polled over 54% of the vote was in the end well in front of Johnny Mac who collected almost 42% of the vote.

That left little else for the other candidates and Arthur Gnohere was in third place and he failed to reach even 2% of the vote.

The Davis who has won the vote is the Davis who returned to the club from Luton at the end of 1998, and joined the Burnley side that was struggling at the bottom of the then Division Two.

He played a full two seasons for us after that but in October 2001 he was ruled out of a game against Sheffield United with what Stan Ternent described as a tweaked knee. He was out for months and was never really fit again up to leaving the club at the end of the 2002/03 season.

But the votes have come in for his contribution during the promotion season of 1999/2000 and the following season when he captained the side to a seventh place finish in Division One, playing in a back five alongside Mitchell Thomas and Ian Cox.

The struggles of his last two years at the Turf should not be allowed to cloud the memories of those two seasons when our fortunes turned round from a struggling Division Two club to one that was beginning to establish itself in Division One.

The defence is complete, now it is time to move onto the midfield in our team of the last ten years.

The team so far:

Marlon Beresford
Gary Parkinson
Gary Cahill
Steve Davis
Mo Camara
