Kevan came to Turf Moor in the summer of 2004, as number two to new manager Steve Cotterill. Then 36, he'd played for Notts County, Stoke and Bournemouth before returning to Stoke to join the coaching staff at the end of his playing career.

He worked there with Cotterill who then brought him to Turf Moor where he stayed until October 2007 before opting for a move to Notts County. He was there during a turbulent period which saw managers come and go. He was caretaker for a while and then assistant to Cotterill again.

He was eventually assistant to Craig Short but both were relieved of their duties in October 2010 after which he had spells with both Stockport and Hereford before returning to Stoke as academy team manager.

Stoke changed their backroom staff in the summer with the departure of Tony Pulis leaving Kevan out of work but he's now joined two former Clarets at Cheltenham.

Manager Mark Yates was first team coach for the first year and a half Kevan was at Burnley so they know each other well and the new man will work with Yates and his assistant Neil Howarth who himself made one appearance for Burnley at Colchester in 1990.
