Dave Burnley - Still There

Last updated : 16 May 2014 By Tony Scholes
Dave Burnley's first book 'Got To Be There'

This period covering every single competitive fixture, including the more obscure ones from the third place play-off in the 1974 FA Cup to even the third place play-off in the Isle of Man Tournament in 2003, and the Singapore Cup in Singapore.

Dave, who has been a Clarets' fan for 50 years, and a season ticket holder for the last 45 years, lives in the isolated village of Madeley, 10 miles from the City of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.

To commemorate his personal attendance record and to celebrate a successful Clarets campaign, Dave wants to bring out Part Two of his autobiography later this year.

Titled "Still There!" it follows on from Part One "Got To Be There!" which was published in our promotion season to the Premier League in 2009. That book begins in 1964 when Dave chose to adopt Burnley as his chosen football club, and ends dramatically with the make or break 'Orient Game' which preserved the club's league status, and possible extinction in May 1987.

"Still There!" traverses the years from that day on until the culmination of the present 2013/14 season. Set against a background of support for both club and country it is a fan's personal account of following a football club from afar.

Along with all the trials and tribulations that involves travelling to each and every game to cheer on his favourites, associated stories of amusement, despair and elation add to the mix of the chapters.

It is hoped that the tales of fifty years of support will inspire future generations of football fans of any team.

In order to achieve this aim Dave is hoping that readers who enjoyed part one, which is currently sold out, would consider becoming subscribers for part two. This would help to offset the escalating cost of printing, publishing and distributing the book.

Additionally, dependent upon response, it is hoped a fourth reprint of "Got to be There!" will be made available for sale.

All pledges of any amount are most appreciated, with donations of £50 or more to be personally acknowledged in each new edition.

As a token gesture of thanks the following incremental donations would qualify for the stated gratuities.

£20 plus = £2 discount voucher on paperback

£100 plus = 1 complimentary paperback and hardback signed by the player of your choice
