Dancing goalkeeper back at Turf Moor

Chris Pearce
Welshman Pearce started his career at Molineux although he never played in the first team before moving on to Blackburn. He didn't play a first team game there either, nor at Barnsley during a loan spell, but made his league debut whilst on loan at Rochdale.

He moved on to Port Vale and then Wrexham before signing for Burnley in the summer of 1987 in the aftermath of the Orient game. In a tribunal agreed fee he cost us £4,000 and became the first choice goalkeeper at Turf Moor for the next four years.

The 1991/92 season saw us use no fewer than five different goalkeepers, three of them on loan. He started that season in the team but lost his place as the four other goalkeepers took over, David Williams ending the season in the side. At the end of that season he was released having made 234 appearances for us.

One of those appearances was at Wembley, against his first club Wolves, in the 1988 Sherpa Van Trophy Final.

After Burnley he had a short spell with Bradford City before bringing his career to an end. 'Pearce, Pearce, give us a dance' will almost certainly be chanted when he comes out, and it is just as certain that he'll respond. Mind you, at least he doesn't do his Max Wall impressions now.
