Curson takes charge at Southampton

Last Updated : 02-Dec-2005 by

Curson was twice in charge of Burnley games last season, both away, and didn’t give the best of performances. Both games ended in draws, the first of them was at Ipswich when he allowed Ipswich to score a late equaliser with Mo Camara down in the penalty box.

His second Burnley game was the last game of the season, a 0-0 draw at Millwall, and on that occasion he did give us a penalty which Micah Hyde missed.

There have been few worrying reports recently although he was the referee that allowed Clarke Carlisle’s goal for Watford against Sheffield Wednesday when he put it in with his hand.

He is not a referee who goes over the top with bookings but away teams do need to be aware that he books visiting players at twice the rate of home players. This season to date he has handed out a total of 43 yellow cards. A total of 14 of those have gone to home players with the other 29 to away players. To add to that he has sent off three players.

He will be assisted at Southampton by Gary Evetts (Hertfordshire) and Danny McDermid (Hampshire). On fourth official duties will be Conference referee Steve Tomlinson (Hampshire).
