Cup Final time at the Turf

Alex Taylor - scored in four of the five ties
They were robbed of the Youth Alliance League Championship for no other reason than the poor facilities at Gawthorpe didn’t allow us to complete our fixtures, and are currently third in the Merit League.

They have gone out of two cup competitions in extra time and it is still difficult to believe they actually lost either against Norwich in the FA Youth Cup and against Oldham in the Lancashire FA Youth Cup.

We had come from behind against Oldham to draw level at 2-2 before conceding an extra time goal. But we got them back for that in the Northern Final of the Youth Alliance Cup when we came from 3-0 and 4-1 down to take it into extra time. Even then we had to come back from behind before drawing 5-5 and winning 4-1 in extra time.

That has given us a final against Swindon next Monday, 2nd May, kicking off at 7:00 p.m. on the Turf – and these lads deserve your support having worn our Claret & Blue shirt with pride.

We’ve reached the final after winning our way through five rounds, four of which were played at home. The first were Blackpool and they were beaten 2-1 with goals from Alex Taylor and Tom Ince.

Next came Darlington and what was considered to be a tough game, it was certainly tough physically as we finished with nine men but we won it 3-0 and this time it was Kyle Lafferty, Taylor and Marc Pugh who got the goals.

We weren’t getting the easy draws and it was Tranmere in January but we came through with a 3-2 win with the goals from Martin Reilly, Neal Trotman and Kyle Lafferty before drawing Doncaster in the next round.

This proved to be the most convincing of the wins with Chris McCann (2), Taylor and a Nicky Platt penalty giving us a 4-0 victory.

And that left Oldham and that fantastic fight back when we scored through McCann, Cayne Hanley (2), including a penalty, Ryan Townsend and Taylor.

Now it is Swindon, now they are maybe ninety minutes from silverware and now they need our support. Admission is only £3 on Monday, if you can get down and give these kids your support, they deserve it and they might just be about to win a trophy for Burnley FC.
