Cup draw means first visit to Vale Park since 1995

Last updated : 14 June 2012 By Tony Scholes

It will be the first time the teams have met in this competition but we've been paired together in the FA Cup on five occasions in the past, the first of them way back in the 19th century when Burnley won 3-0 against the then named Burslem Port Vale.

Our cup record at Vale Park is not good though. We've twice visited them in the FA Cup when in a higher league and both times come home with defeats. The first of them was a 2-1 loss in the 4th round and four years later we suffered a 2-0 defeat in a 2nd round replay.

The last cup meeting with them was as recent as 2011 when we beat them 4-2 at home in the 3rd round with goals from Clarke Carlisle, Tyrone Mears, Chris Eagles and a Graham Alexander penalty. For all but Eagles they proved to be last Burnley goals for each player.

Our last visit to Vale Park was in April 1995. We'd been promoted alongside them a year earlier but went down 1-0 in the penultimate away game of the 1994/95 season as we slipped back down into division three.

We've won there only three times in twenty visits. Two of those wins were in successive seasons, 1930/31 and 1931/32. The last of those wins was a 3-2 victory in the John Bond season of 1983/84 with Steve Daly scoring all three goals.

This tie is scheduled for week commencing Monday 13th August but can, should both clubs agree, be brought forward to Saturday 11th or Sunday 12th August.
