Crisis Update – We're similar to Watford

There have been rumours about rumours in Burnley recently and with Chairman Barry Kilby apparently now in a bunker and Andrew Watson saying nothing when he says something there has been nothing to stop the rumours.

Last night at the launch of the latest Burnley FC book Andrew Watson told the audience that Burnley Football Club were not going bust in the next three weeks, his words aimed at the suggestions of the Daily Mail. Mind you he didn’t say that we wouldn’t be going out of business in four weeks.

I’m not suggesting that we are but the Chief Executive, as was the case last week, missed the opportunity and actually said nothing.

He has though commented on the situations at Ipswich and Watford where players have been asked to take pay cuts. In fact at Watford they have been asked to take cuts of 12.5% with the club needing to raise £9.5 million urgently and this after selling Vicarage Road.

That won’t be happening at the Turf and the players will not be asked to take cuts. Watson said, "We will not be asking any of our players to take a pay cut and we don't feel we can.

"The players at this club have signed contracts and as a club it is up to us to honour them. What the news from Watford does show is that a lot of other clubs in the first division are in a similar position to ours and looking for ways to make things better.

"Ipswich has had to do something similar to Watford and we know that almost all of the clubs in the division are struggling. It is the first division clubs that have been hit hardest."

He then went on to say, "The players have been doing a terrific job on the pitch in the last few weeks, being unbeaten in the last six games, and at the same time we are trying to get things right off it."

Clearly our Chief Executive must not have been at Bradford for the last fifteen minutes, had he been he surely would not have said that.

Whatever the financial situation though Stan has said today that he has, as yet, been unable to offer Lenny Johnrose another month at Turf Moor because of the current state of the finances. Stan intends speaking to Chairman Kilby, presumably in his bunker, tomorrow to see if a further month for Johnrose is possible.
