Crisis deepens – Hixon goes

So much so that rumours around town have intensified following the statement from the club as supporters genuinely worry about the future of our club.

It has been mentioned recently that we have made cut backs in scouting and this has been confirmed today with news that we have even relieved 81 year-old Jack Hixon of his scouting duties.

Jack has quickly found himself work though and has joined Newcastle United, the club he has supported all his life, after an approach from their Chief Scout Charlie Woods. He said today,

"I'm delighted to join Newcastle even if at 81 years of age it's in the winter of my life. I've always supported United during my 52 years scouting for other Football League clubs. It's like coming home.

"I received a phone call from Burnley last Thursday stating that, for financial reasons, they were closing down their scouting operations and I fully understood that. I left with no ill- feeling on my part whatsoever."

Jack Hixon was a Burnley scout for many years bringing in players such as Brian O’Neil, Ralph Coates and current manager Stan Ternent. Not only that it was Jack who took Steve Davis to Southampton.

He returned to Burnley in a blaze of publicity not long ago and the club already has some of Jack’s lads at the club in Anthony Shandran, Andy Leeson, Steven Richardson, Sean Blakey and Mark Rasmussen.

It is a sad day indeed that Burnley have found the need to lay off an 81 year-old and even sadder that the scouting operation has had to be shut down."

We can only send our best wishes to Jack and thank him for his contribution to Burnley Football Club.
