Coyne to join Clarets

Some of the names mentioned were just too far fetched to even think of believing and even the ridiculous notion of Nick Barmby joining us was thought to be the case by some.

The name of Danny Coyne though was never far away but with Leicester going on tour to Finland with no replacement and first team goalkeeper Iain Walker still on holiday after Euro 2004 the move had to be delayed.

Yesterday Leicester signed pie-eating former Sheffield Wednesday keeper Kevin Pressman and with Walker set to resume training within the next few days that should leave the way clear for Danny Coyne to become Steve Cotterill’s third Burnley signing.

A fee of £25,000 has been suggested for the former Tranmere and Grimsby goalkeeper who will find some familiar faces from Prenton Park if and when he arrives at Turf Moor with Graham Branch, John McGreal and Ian Moore all in the Burnley squad.

So the speculation is about to end and after a year of, to put it mildy, erratic goalkeeping the Clarets will have a new number one.
