Coyne still seeking fitness

Danny was spotted warming up with the players prior to the last few games of last season, giving rise to the hopes that he could be ready for the start of the 2006/07 season but that doesn't look to be the case as he continues his rehabilitation.

His pre-season is going well but manager Steve Cotterill doesn't believe he will be ready by the time QPR arrive at Turf Moor for the opener in just under three weeks time and has revealed today that he's been able to train with the rest of the squad but has missed some days since they reported back.

“We are delighted with his progress, and he will only get better in time,” the manager said, adding: “Danny knows his body better than anybody and we have got to look after him and be careful.”

Brought in during the summer of 2004, Coyne has not had the best of times at Burnley and in both seasons has suffered serious knee injuries that have limited his appearances. In his first season he was out for months after being stretchered off in the 3-0 defeat at QPR and then last season, having established himself as first choice again, his season was over with that injury against Brighton.

He'll continue his rehab and until he's fit enough to return it will mean Brian Jensen will remain our only senior goalkeeper and will be an automatic choice in the first team, certainly in the short term.
