Coyne out for season

Danny has suffered cruciate and medial knee ligament injuries following the incident in the tenth minute of our draw with Brighton on Saturday. He went down with no other player involved and manager Steve Cotterill suspected how serious it was almost immediately.

He has seen a specialist and the results today confirmed the worst and it will be around a year before he is fit and able to play again and becomes the second player to be ruled out following a similar injury to Wayne Thomas at the end of last month at Reading.

“It’s what we feared and it is a devastating blow for us,” said manager Steve Cotterill. “It makes it worse as Wayne Thomas has a similar injury, and because of the nature of the injury he will have to wear a brace for a month before they can even operate.”

It leaves the Clarets with only one senior goalkeeper Brian Jensen and the manager added, “He will be sorely missed and the injury means he will be out for the rest of the season. It will take a good twelve months before the area is fully healed.”
