Coyne gets Wales call up

Coyne, who started for the Welsh as recently as May in Canada, is in a 26-man squad alongside another summer target Robert Page and former Burnley player Gareth Taylor who is now recovered from the injury that kept him out of Forest’s run in.

He will have to fight alongside Paul Jones of Wolves, Fulham’s Mark Crossley and Darren Ward from Forest for Wales’ final game before the World Cup qualifiers start and it is likely that he will start the game on the bench.

He won’t miss any league games for the Clarets but it will rule him out of the testimonial for former manager Stan Ternent with Brian Jensen expected to play in that game.

However, with him facing a World Cup suspension, Ryan Giggs has not been included and will be available for the Turf Moor game as will Paul Scholes who announced his retirement from international football today.

The full Welsh squad is:

Danny Coyne (Burnley), Mark Crossley (Fulham), Paul Jones (Wolves), Darren Ward (Forest), James Collins (Cardiff), Mark Delaney (Aston Villa), Rob Edwards (Wolves), Danny Gabbidon (Cardiff), Andy Melville (Fulham), Robert Page (Cardiff), Gareth Roberts (Tranmere), Ben Thatcher (Man City), Carl Fletcher (Bournemouth), Andy Johnson (West Brom), Jason Koumas (West Brom), John Oster (Sunderland), Paul Parry (Cardiff), Mark Pembridge (Fulham), Carl Robinson (Sunderland), Robbie Savage (Birmingham), Gary Speed (Bolton), Gary Bellamy (Newcastle), Nathan Blake (Leicester), Robert Earnshaw (Cardiff), John Hartson (Celtic), Gareth Taylor (Forest).
