Coyle worth a million

Our wonderful day at Wembley almost two weeks ago was overshadowed somewhat in subsequent days with the news that Owen was a wanted man. As Robbie was running round Wembley in his Bad Beat Bobs the news was already filtering through that Gordon Strachan had left Celtic and Owen Coyle was the man being tipped to replace him.

It led to a difficult two or three days but all the time Burnley were adamant there had been no approach and Owen confirmed that there was a job to be done at Turf Moor and he was staying to do it.

Chairman Barry Kilby confirmed that we were close to agreeing an extension to his contract that would see him remain as manager until the summer of 2013 and today Alan Nixon has reported that the new deal will include a clause giving Burnley £1 million should he move on during the four year period.

I'd suggest it is imperative that there is such a clause in the contract but I'm not over certain a million is enough. These next few days should see Wigan pay £2 million for the services of Roberto Martinez whilst Britain's most nomadic manager Steve Bruce has just cost Sunderland £3 million. I would say, based on those figures, £5 million is about right.
