Coyle wants to keep Nugent

Speaking today the Clarets boss said: "Hull, Wigan, there were a few in for David Nugent and we're obviously delighted we managed to entice him to the football club. He's been fantastic for us.

"He was on the bench last week because I felt he'd played a lot of games in a short space of time, given that he'd been idle for the most part of a season and a half. But he made a big impact when he came on.

"David's a player I love working with and I'd love to have him here long term if we can facilitate that."

Nugent has made six Premier League appearances for the Clarets since his move from the south coast. Three of those have been from the bench and in the second of them, in the home game against Sunderland, he came on and scored twice to help us to a 3-1 win.

Again last week he lifted the performance for a period when he came on but unfortunately we were unable to turn round the deficit against Wigan.

Nugent's loan deal comes to an end at the end of 2009 with an option to extend it, but it looks now as though Coyle will do all he can to keep him on a permanent basis.
