"I would love to keep David, he knows that and I know he wants to be here. That's a good start," said Coyle after seeing the loan striker bag the equaliser to earn the Clarets a point this afternoon.
"Hopefully the powers that be can sort that out. His loan runs until the 22nd January, but I would love to have him available for the FA Cup tie. There is obviously a little bit of chatting to be done and without putting pressure on the chairman or Brendan I would hope that can be soon."
Today was Nugent's first goal since his brace against Sunderland and Coyle added: "David feels a big part of it and the longer we work together the better player I think I can make him. He has all the talent and I am trying to coach that out of him. He could have had a hat trick today and all through his own work, I might add.
"He will have been frustrated because I have been desperate to pair David with Fletch, but if we do that it means we give a little up elsewhere. There's no doubt both players will be disappointed they didn't score more today, but the combination together was great."
Nugent added: We have talked about extending the loan deal until the end of the season and hopefully that will be sorted sooner rather than later. I am enjoying it here and scoring goals again."
The January transfer window opens next Friday and remains open until 5:00 p.m. on 2nd February with Burnley already having confirmed they will be signing Cork City central defender Kevin Long on a three and a half year deal.
