Coyle waiting for Cole

Cole has been with the Clarets since January when he arrived on a long term loan deal from RK Sunderland and Coyle has said on numerous occasions how much he would like to see him extend his Turf Moor stay.

"He loves it at the football club," Coyle has said again. "He's shown he's still capable if you look at the stats," he added. "Ultimately Andrew will decide what's best for himself, but as regards the football club we need to do the best we can. We think we've made him a fair offer from where we are, and we'll see how he comes back."

Cole netted six times for the Clarets including a hat trick in that sensational game at QPR but for him to remain at Burnley will mean him taking a cut in pay. Cole continued: "Given that it is a fairly reduced package from what he's used to, then obviously he'll want a bit of time to think it over.

"We're not one of the bigger clubs in the Championship who have got a parachute payment and can afford to have a big, big squad. We obviously didn't pay his full salary when he was on loan from Sunderland because it was way in excess of what everyone else is on here.

"Obviously he's now left Sunderland, and we've put a proposal to Andrew, and it will be up to him to come back and say yes or no, and that's where we are."

The manager also confirmed that despite speculation on a television sports news channel he was still waiting for David Unsworth to get back to him with a decision, and it was the same with both James O'Connor and Jay Rodriguez who have both been offered new playing contracts.
