Thompson has been with Cardiff since January 2006 and scored twice on his debut for them in a 3-0 win against us at Ninian Park, Jason Koumas getting the third goal all of which came in a five minute spell in the second half. He'd arrived in a £250,000 deal from Rangers who he had joined three years before that from his first club Dundee United.

He's also played sixteen times for Scotland scoring three goals, making his international bow in a friendly against France in March 2002. The last of those caps came in October 2004 when he scored Scotland's equaliser in a 1-1 draw in Moldova in a World Cup qualifier.

His most recent goal was Cardiff's first in their 2-1 win against Southampton on the opening day opening day of this season. It is his only start of the season but in their subsequent three league games he's been used as a substitute.

In total he's scored 16 goals in 97 league games for Cardiff (he was used as a substitute in 26 of those games) to add to the 35 goals he scored in Scotland.
