Coyle - it is a no go

It was just after lunch that the first suggestions came that this might not be a done deal and now the club have confirmed that, as was the case with Sheffield Wednesday and Brian Laws, we have been refused permission to speak to Coyle.

In a brief statement this afternoon the club said: Burnley Football Club today asked permission from St. Johnstone to negotiate with their manager Owen Coyle over the vacancy at Turf Moor. Compensation was offered if it transpired that Mr Coyle was later appointed as Burnley manager.

However, permission to negotiate has currently been refused and the two clubs are unable to reach an agreement.

From Reid to Coyle and now back to the drawing board, all in the space of a few hours. There are now suggestions that it could be into next week before the Clarets appoint their new man with Steve Davis continuing as caretaker boss for the home game against Stoke.
