That was how it was for him last season and he started just half of the games in the league season with another month missed earlier after a hamstring injury picked up at Preston.
He was with the Clarets for just over three years after signing at the beginning of February 2000 during the promotion season and injury apart was very much a regular in the side. In all he made 131 appearances for the Clarets.
We reported a few weeks ago that Gillingham were keen on taking him to the Priestfield Stadium and today Coxy signed a two year deal with them. Gills’ boss Andy Hessenthaler said after completing the deal,
"I made it clear a little while ago that central defence was a department where we needed extra cover and Ian was among the people I knew could do that job for us.
"With Chris Hope and Barry Ashby, we have a real competition for places there no, and if I can get the replacement I want for Roland Edge at left-back, I am confident we will have the defence we need for the coming season."
