Courtney departs Turf Moor

Duane signed right on transfer deadline day last August, a £25,000 capture from AFC Telford as the Clarets nipped in just ahead of Wolves for his signature. His signing came just two days after Wayne Thomas, now the club captain, was injured at Reading and looked to be out for the season.

He never quite made it into the first team, although he made one start at right back on that fantastic day at Luton last November when we won 3-2 against all the odds. His seven other appearances, including the Carling Cup tie at Aston Villa, were all from the subs bench.

His last appearance in the first team was back in February when he replaced Gifton Noel-Williams at Ipswich with seven minutes of the game remaining and at the end of the season he was one of the four players placed on the transfer list.

We only saw him fleetingly during pre-season and during that time he turned down the opportunity to join Mark Yates in the Conference at Kidderminster, his agent believing he could attract a better deal.

Today, as the transfer deadline fast approaches, Burnley have agreed with him to cancel his contract which was scheduled to run until the end of this season. As was the case with Danny, we would like to wish Duane the very best as he looks to move on to a new club.
