Coughlan can leave Hillsborough

Coughlan, who signed for the Yorkshire club in the summer of, was a regular in the Wednesday side until the beginning of 2007. However, a facial injury followed by the tragic death of his younger brother saw him out of the side. When he was available again they were on a good run and he was unable to win back his place.

That led to him joining us on loan but he started only the one game against Luton and on his return he's been told by manager Brian Laws that he is not in his plans for next season. With a year left on his contract he now has the option of looking for a club elsewhere.

Laws said: "I've had a long chat with him about my thoughts for next season, and explained that I don't seem him in my plans. If he's not going to be involved in the team, he is going to find it difficult if he wants to play football like any good professional. "We have given permission for his representative to find him a club and have circulated his name around every club. He is available."

The centre of defence is one of our strongest areas with captain Steven Caldwell, Michael Duff, Wayne Thomas and Stephen Foster able to play in that position. It's not expected that we would be interested in bringing Coughlan back to Turf Moor.
