Cotterill widens the net in LA

Since the end of last season Steve has been out watching games in both Germany and Spain and players have impressed him on both visits, especially Spain where there could be some activity in the near future.

This weekend he’s casting his net far and wide by flying out to Los Angeles to take in two international matches in the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Both game take place on Sunday in the Los Angeles Coliseum with Mexico kicking off against Guatemala at 3:05 in the afternoon closely followed by Jamaica v South Africa at 5:15 p.m.

The Burnley manager says there are a couple of players he has been tipped off about and for us only the Jamaican squad carries any familiar names. There’s something of a Preston flavour to it with Claude Davis, Omar Daley and Portsmouth’s Ricardo Fuller all named and they are joined by other English based players Donovan Ricketts and Jermaine Johnson.

It’s hardly likely that he’s off to see players he could watch in England so presumably these can be ruled out. The net is clearly being cast wider to strengthen the squad in preparation for the new season.
