Cliff arrived at Burnley along with Stan Ternent in the summer of 1998 as Chief Scout and was with the club for almost five years before departing suddenly towards the end of the 2002/03 season.

He went to work for West Ham as a scout but today has pledged his future to the Clarets and will return with immediate effect to assist the new manager in scouting.

Cotterill told the official site, “Cliff is someone I have known for a long time on the circuit and brings with him a wealth of knowledge.

“He is an honest hard working and conscientious person and I am delighted to bring him back to Burnley.”

And Cliff added, “I am very happy to be coming back to Turf Moor and excited about helping Steve to be a success.”

So as he looks to rebuild the club the new manager has made his first appointment – just a few coaches and players to go now and we’ll be ready for the new season.
