Cork's is Goal of the Month

Last updated : 05 March 2011 By Tony Scholes
It was our last goal of February and, given the importance of the goal along with its quality, it has won the goal of the month vote convincingly having polled over half of the vote.

No less than 57.9% of the vote went Cork's way, his fourth goal for the Clarets and his first goal of the month winner. All four of his goals have been headers and the previous three, against Spurs, Doncaster and Derby, have all been at Turf Moor.

His first away goal was way ahead of Dean Marney's opener against Norwich, a smart strike along the ground from just outside the box. Marney took second place with a 26.6% share of the vote.

Then came a real favourite of mine; Chris Eagles' goal at Watford that gave us a 2-1 lead. He played a 1-2 with Chris Iwelumo before hitting his shot early, again a goal at the end where the Burnley fans were. That won just 7.1% of the vote and it was followed by Jay Rodriguez' goal at Preston which won 4.2% whilst the remaining goal all had under a 2% share of the vote each.

Cork's goal is now guaranteed a place in the vote for the goal of the season along with all the other monthly winners which are Eagles (August v Morecambe), Iwelumo (September v Preston), Eagles (October v Barnsley), Tyrone Mears (November v Derby), Rodriguez (December v Leeds) and Marney (January v Portsmouth).

The next voting poll will start this evening with the man of the match from this afternoon's home game against Crystal Palace. That will start within an hour of the final whistle.
