Cooky wins place in this week's team

Cooky, a player who doesn’t always receive the recognition is performances deserve, has been in excellent form recently particularly in the role he is playing since the first game against Fulham.

He has also been captaining the side too in the absence of Steve Davis and for some time Ian Cox and has now retained the captaincy despite Coxy’s return to the side. He had an outstanding game in the cup replay against Fulham and continued this form into the league game at Stoke as the Clarets picked up another win and another clean sheet.

No other Clarets made the side, surely they will eventually notice Driss Diallo, but Cook is joined by a former loan Claret in Gillingham’s Paul Shaw.

The full team is,

Shaka Hislop (Porstmouth), Michael Dawson (Nottm. Forest), Neil Cox (Watford), Joleon Lescott (Wolves), Tony Barras (Walsall), Paul Merson (Portsmouth), Allen Nielsen (Watford), Paul Shaw (Gillingham), Paul Cook (Burnley), Neil Shipperley (Franchise), Richard Cresswell (Preston).
