Cookey wants to go home

Shropshire born Cooke has been training with Shrewsbury whilst manager Gary Peters, the former Preston player takes a look at him, and he is more than keen to impress and win a contract with the League Two club.

He already owns property in the area and admitted that a move back would suit him. He said: “The football has gone fine for me overall but for me and my wife, being away from our families has been a bit of a nightmare and we just want to get back.”

It's almost six years since Cookey, signed by Jimmy Mullen from Welsh club Newtown, left Burnley and he went on to play for Stoke and then in South Korea before returning to England and Bradford City, after training with the Clarets and being offered a deal by Steve Cotterill.

And now, if he impresses Peters, he will be on his way back home to Shropshire, and his local club Shrewsbury Town.
