Cook moves on from Accrington

Cook ended his playing career in the non-league with Stanley after leaving Burnley in 2003. He became a coach there but eventually left to manage Southport and then Sligo Rovers in the Republic of Ireland.

He was in demand with one or two English clubs and, after initially turning them down, returned to Accrington in February of this year as manager, replacing John Coleman who had moved to Rochdale.

They ended last season in mid-table and this season got off to a good start winning three of the first four league games including. Two of those wins came against Port Vale and Cheltenham who are currently both in the top four.

Accrington were fourth after those first four games and they were still in fourth place after winning at AFC Wimbledon on the last Saturday in September, but things haven't gone too well this month with all four games lost and them down in 16th place.

So, it was something of a surprise yesterday when Accrington gave Chesterfield permission to speak to Cook. Those talks have concluded with Cook now having been installed at Chesterfield and Accrington, with Leam Richardson in temporary charge, looking for a new manager.
