Both Cook and Branch arrived at Turf Moor from Stockport during the 1998/99 season, Branch signing at New Year whilst Cook arrived on loan in March just before the transfer deadline.

Cook was a major influence in the unbeaten run of eleven games at the end of that season as we climbed to safety and over the next four years turned in a series of top performances as we firstly won promotion before establishing ourselves at the higher level.

In what was a close run poll it was Cook who came out on top with 39.5% of the vote whilst Branchy, a Burnley player for over eight years, took 33.2% and second place.

With almost 73% between them it left the rest as also rans with Kyle Lafferty taking third place with 12% of the vote.

Now we need to select two central midfield players and there will be two votes similar to those for the central defenders. The first includes sixteen players and is now on the front page of the site. That will run until the end of Thursday when a second poll will start with all but the winner who will take his place in the team.

With close to 10,000 votes already having been cast for the first seven positions it is proving to be a very popular selection with four places up for grabs and then a manager to select.
