Cook, an unlikely link

I'm not sure we can actually call him a Fulham player given that, as yet, he's not kicked a ball for them following his big transfer from QPR last summer. It could have been seen as coming home for Cook who was born in Hammersmith but in truth it was a difficult decision to leave QPR, the club he's always supported.

He'd been at Loftus Road for three years after a loan spell in the 2002/03 season, signing from Watford to join the club he always wanted to play for, but he left for the Premier League at Fulham but failed to get a chance under Lawrie Sanchez because of injury.

He joined Charlton on loan in January for the rest of the season but as Alan Pardew's team faltered badly he started just four games for them, the last of which was at QPR.

Last summer QPR needed the money from the sale, but with that no longer the case they would surely be clear favourites to sign him if they wanted him. Cook would love to go back there and play and given the chance I don't think he'd look at another club in the Championship.

If we could get him then it would be a massive coup for manager Owen Coyle but for a player who, other than a month on loan at York in 2002, has played all his career in Watford and West London I would think this one to be very unlikely.
