He had a nightmare that was epitomised by the incident which saw John McGreal on the ground and getting punched by Marlon Harewood. It all ended in chaos and after spending five minutes trying to sort it all out he got it horribly wrong and allowed Harewood to stay on the field.

The two managers, Martin Foyle and Phil Parkinson, were fuming after the game at his performance and Parkinson suggested that a video of the match should be used for training potential referees in how not to do it.
Naïve Port Vale boss Foyle actually thought he would get the referee to change his mind but there was nothing doing and appeals against all of the red cards have been turned down by the FA this week.
It is fair to say though that his card figures are not too worrying with 66 yellow and 8 red in 26 games. He got off to a strange sort of season by handing out more yellow cards to home team players than away team players but that’s been reversed now with 27 to home players and 39 to away players.
Incredibly 28 of the last 37 cards have gone the way of away team players.
One thing that is certain, we have a referee tomorrow who is not intent on letting the game flow, a referee who will stop it at every opportunity.
