Condemned Central Lancs Clarets set for move

Lancaster Castle - hopefully not too many Clarets coming from there
It is, we are told, just a pure coincidence that Central Lancs Chairman Meg Fawcett has chosen the Golden Lion, Moor Lane, Lancaster for their first sojourn north and nothing to do with the history of the Golden Lion.

The Golden Lion was traditionally used as the place where condemned prisoners being held at Lancaster Castle were allowed their last drink before execution. The Pendle Witches took their last drink there on 20th August 1612 before being executed.

The meeting starts at 8 o’clock tomorrow and the CLC look forward to welcoming their existing membership in the North Lancs and South Lakes areas whilst offering a warm welcome to fellow Clarets in the area who want to call in or wish to join the group.

But for all of you going, please be very careful after taking that last drink at the Golden Lion. We really don’t want to see Turf Moor attendances having to drop further.
