Commons interest

Commons, from Mansfield, and a Nottingham Forest fan has been at the City Ground for three years after moving from Stoke City on a Bosman transfer during the summer. That presumably is the reason for Stoke having been included in the list of interested clubs.

Burnley will have been added because it was Steve Cotterill who gave him his first taste of league football when he promoted him to the first team on the opening day of the 2002/03 season in a 0-0 draw at Sheffield Wednesday.

It's no surprise to see Preston there either, it's been going on for years, them being keen on a player once someone has suggested we're interested, and that leaves Birmingham, but that one would definitely be a surprise given that they will be rebuilding their squad for the Premiership.

Commons' first appearance against the Clarets came early in that 2002/03 season but on that occasion he came on as a late sub for Jurgen Vandeurzen for Steve Cotterill's Stoke. The last time he played against us was for Forest, and on that occasion he scored the only goal of the game as they headed towards League One.

Forest have today offered him a new deal with but suggestions are that the 24-year-old will move on rather than start another season in League One. Whether that is Burnley, time will tell, there's no confirmation that we're interested in him, it might well be that it is just his previous link with Steve Cotterill that has brought about today's rumour.
