Comebacks for duo

Gascoigne and Waddle seen here on England duty
There was a familiar face at Molineux on Tuesday night, that of Paul Gascoigne. He has been training with Wolves recently although there has been indication as to whether Dave Jones would in fact be interested in signing him or not.

But last night he pulled on the old gold shirt for his first competitive game in England since he last appeared for Burnley against Coventry in May 2002, almost eighteen months ago.

His return was for Wolves reserves against Sunderland and the venue is one that Burnley fans of the 1980s will recall with horror – Telford United’s Bucks Head Stadium.

A crowd of 538 were there to witness his return to English football but he had what was described as a very quiet game as Wolves were beaten 3-1 by Sunderland in the FA Premier Reserve League.

Further north and a former Burnley player manager was signing on to play for a new club. Yesterday Chris Waddle signed on the dotted line for South Normanton Athletic.

Waddle signed for the Northern Counties East League Division One side last season but for one reason or other never played. This time he is hoping to be available right through to the end of the season.

The former Burnley boss was not available for comment but South Normanton Athletic manager Rob Atkin said, "Chris has obviously got an incredible presence and it's particularly good for the younger players at the club.

"I'm hoping he'll be available for the rest of the season but we're well aware he does have other commitments, but he's told me he wants to play and I think our style of football will suit him."
