Cole and Varga released

Andrew Cole
Andrew Cole - he and Stanislav Varga released by RK Sunderland
They are two of four players to be shown the door by Roy Keane at the end of their contracts with the former Republic of Ireland international threatening to point others in the same direction.

I don't think it very likely that Varga would interest Owen Coyle, but the Clarets boss is certain to be speaking to Cole in the near future. He said only this week that he would have a chat with him about his future should he be released and we can expect Coyle to make every effort to persuade Cole to sign a deal with the Clarets.

He was with us from January but didn't play as often as he might have done because of injuries. But he did net six goals in his time with the Clarets including the hat trick in the sensational 4-2 victory against QPR at Loftus Road in February.

With Coyle looking to increase the size of the squad, and despite him saying he was looking for pace and power, there is every chance that one of the new signings could be Andrew Cole.
