Clarets will face Charlton next season

Alan Pardew - in charge since Boxing Day
Although only finishing in the top half of the table twice, in 2000/01 and 2003/04, they had never seriously been threatened with relegation under Alan Curbishley's management, but following his departure in the summer they have hired three, and sacked two managers in what has been a season of disaster.

Current boss Alan Pardew took over on Boxing Day when they sat, as they do today, just above bottom club Watford. However, the form has been more than good enough since then, it was the results under Iain Dowie and Les Read that have cost them their place in the top league.

We last met Charlton in league action during our one year stay in what was then Division One in the 1994/95 season following the play off win at Wembley over Stockport. Although we went straight back down again, in a season when Charlton finished in fourteenth place, we won both games against them.

At the Valley Steve Davis and Liam Robinson netted in a 2-1 win during October, and it proved to be our last away win of the season. Only 9,436 saw that game and there were just a few more (10,045) saw us beat them 2-1 at the Turf with goals from David Eyres and loan signing Paul Shaw.

Charlton's relegation sees them come down with Watford, and we'll know the third relegated club this weekend, it will be Sheffield United, Wigan or West Ham, although there could be some fun if West Ham stay up with clubs ready to go to court against them over the Tevez and Mascherano issue.
