Clarets to take on new Football League club

The game will be played a full four weeks before the league season gets underway on Saturday 8th July at what is now called the Fraser Eagle Stadium. That means we play even before the World Cup Final and two weeks before our home game against Bolton, a game scheduled earlier this week.

It has become something of a regular thing, but until three years ago it was the reserves we used to send there rather than the first team, but that all changed in 2003 as Accrington improved and our squad diminished in size.

Last year it ended in a 3-0 win for the Clarets with the goals coming from John McGreal, Ade Akinbiyi and Graham Branch. The teams that night were,

Accrington Stanley: Collings, Williams, Flynn, Tretton, Butler, O'Neill, Brannan, Craney, Mullin, Noone, Roberts. Subs: Cook, Barry, Nay, Brown, Alcock, Lloyd, Jagielka, Millighan, Lathorn.

Burnley: Brian Jensen (Danny Coyne 45), Michael Duff, Wayne Thomas, John McGreal (Garreth O'Connor 45), Frank Sinclair, Wade Elliott, James O'Connor, Artim Sakiri (Chris McCann 84), Graham Branch, Ade Akinbiyi (Kyle Lafferty 84), Gifton Noel-Williams.
