Clarets to get American Soccer League invite – in York

The new York City Soccer Club kit
As Batchelor goes from one crazy idea to another it is perhaps good news for Burnley that he is not involved in the decision making in the Turf Moor board room.

Batchelor seemed initially undecided which side to take in the television problems and first announced that he was putting a consortium together to buy ITV Digital. What a major surprise then to hear that it didn’t come off and the television company disappeared off the face of the earth.

When the Football League lost the court case that never was he vented his anger on them and threatened to sue them. This week he has confirmed that he will be going ahead with this although has admitted that he has received no support from any other club.

"They were negligent in their negotiations with ITV Digital and as a result we have lost out on £204,666 and if it is not forthcoming we will take them to court," said Batchelor.

He is already turning York into a music hall joke, they are now renamed as York City Soccer Club and he has introduced a dreadful looking kit this year that has a huge letter Y on the front and a chequered flag sleeve to support his racing team.

You would think that would be enough and he would be too busy with this to come up with any other crazy schemes but oh no, he has decided he wants to form his own league in association with American company Rayovac.

His idea is to invite all the Football League clubs plus Rangers and Celtic to join his Anglo/American York City Soccer Club to start a new league, away from the restrictions of the Football League, and to get it underway from the beginning of next season.

He has made it clear that only Celtic and Rangers from Scotland will be invited. There will be no calls from him to Hearts or Hibs or either of the Dundees.

"The Football League is unsustainable in it's current format and it needs a new structure," said Batchelor.

"50% of all gate money would go to the league, which would help pay the players wages. Clubs would be welcome to enhance those wages but would have to be trading profitbaly to be allowed to do so. They would have to submit accounts to the league at the end of the year to prove this," he added.

Incredibly Mr. Batchelor wants us all to withdraw from the Football League in time to go into his league for the start of next season. Maybe he can get Mr. Pompous on board to help him.

Hand up those who would still like to see John Batchelor in the Turf Moor board room.
