Clarets start with a win

With the Clarets fans outnumbered by some two to one it was like an away match and we soon found ourselves 1-0 down at Douglas Bowl when Blackpool’s weekend signing from Barnsley Mike Sheron gave them the lead. It followed a mix up between new goalkeeper Brian Jensen and trialist Clive Delaney who was in the starting line up alongside Graham Branch in the centre of defence.

That’s how it remained until added time at the end of the second half when the Clarets were awarded a penalty which was converted by Gareth Taylor taking the game into a penalty shoot out.

Gareth had scored with the last kick of the game virtually in open play and also scored our last spot kick on the night as we went through 4-3 after Brian Jensen had saved the last two kicks.

Only Glen Little failed in the shoot out for Burnley – our other scorers were Mo Camara, Dean West and Ian Moore.

The teams lined up as follows:

Burnley: Brian Jensen, Lee Roche, Clive Delaney (Fabrice Richard 45), Graham Branch, Mo Camara, Glen Little, Paul Weller (Richard Chaplow 45), Tony Grant, Matt O’Neill (Dean West 45), Ian Moore, Gareth Taylor. Sub not used: Mickael Antoine-Curier.

Blackpool: Phil Barnes, Jamie Burns, Chris Clarke, Mike Flynn, Steve Davis, Danny Coid, Martin Bullock, McMahon, Richie Wellens, Mike Sheron, Scott Taylor.
