Clarets Skipper has his say

Tom Heaton the Clarets' skipper reflects on what he considers to be a more business-like approach by Burnley to regaining their place in the Barclays Premier League.

Tom commented, “It’s an unbelievable feeling and it’s different to the first time. The first time was more emotional and we were going on momentum but this one was more business-like".

“The expectancy was there and the games have been much tighter and the circumstances tougher."

“We had a lot of tough challenges to face and we met them head on so it probably pips the last one for me.”

Tom is clearly a fan's favourite. He has hardly put a foot wrong since he joined the Clarets on a free when signed by Sean Dyche.

He also plays an important part in Burnley FC's activities in the Community. His enthusiasm for all things Claret and Blue is plain for all to see.

Tom clearly enjoys mixing with the club's younger supporters!

“Making the Premier League was the main aim and it’s a long hard road. We’ve stood up to the test and a lot of credit goes to the manager and his staff because they set the stall out and we follow.

Speaking about the Burnley goalkeeping coach Billy Mercer, Heaton added: “Bill has been here since I first signed and he brought me into the club with the manager. I’ve worked with him day in, day out and he’s been a massive part of what I’ve done here."

“More importantly he feeds that desire to make me better and keep trying to push things so I’m so grateful for him and thankful for all his work this season.”

“It’s unique in terms of football clubs these days because you don’t often get that bond and closeness but everyone here has a good feel for what we do."

“The principles we play by are giving everything for this shirt. If I was supporting a club like I do, when you see that you can get behind it win, lose or draw.

“Long may that continue.” Hear hear! (TEC)
