Clarets sign Saints youngster

The news came out of the blue via Sky, and without either club confirming it, but it looks as though we are taking the 17 year-old for an initial month.

He made his debut for Southampton this season and has made three appearances for them, playing in both of their Carling Cup ties as well as coming on as a substitute in the league win over Crewe.

It was his performance against Southend, his very first appearance, that had heads turning as he won the man of the match award with what was described as an electrifying display. International recognition followed and he was called up for the England Under-19 squad for a tournament in Poland, this following a previous appearance against Norway.

He is described as a quicksilver winger, and it remains to be seen whether he goes straight into the squad for the televised game against Hull tomorrow night.
